Persons of Note: John Cage scores

One of the things about John Cage that draws me towards focusing on him for this project is his approach to music scores and notation. He has a very unconventional approach to writing music and this is reflected in the way he records it on paper. Occasionally there are actual parts of music written on the paper, but these are usually just a few notes and they're placed on strange places on the paper. There is also a lot of text used, particularly in his piece "water walk". It's interesting though because it must work and function as instructions on how to play the piece because I watched a recording of John Cage performing it, and then a much later video of someone else performing it and they sounded the same.

However, I don't really understand the notation for some pieces where he's drawn strange shapes and symbols on the staves, so I'll need to research this further.

I think John Cage would be good to use for this project because these weird ways of writing music are very visual representations of what the music sounds like and sum up his approach and thoughts about music. It'd be fun to try and incorporate some of these scores into designs.
