Observational Drawing 2: York Trip
These are the drawings that I did in the railway museum on the York trip. For some reason I found trains really challenging to draw, perhaps because they're just very big things to draw and also quite uniform so if I made a mistake it was really obvious. I struggled with perspective a bit trying to draw trains but I'm pretty happy with the drawings of objects I did in the museum instead. I think the brush pen works well for observational drawings but I definitely should've tried out a wider range of media.
I much preferred the second half of the day when we were drawing in the park. I think this is because the things I was drawing were less uniform and I could get more energy into the drawings, and if I made a mistake it wasn't really too obvious. There were also more interesting shapes and shadows to draw in the park because I was drawing ruins and rocks etc. Again, I probably should've experimented with media more but I just really love using the brush pen for observational drawings because you can get such interesting line quality and texture that is harder to achieve with other media.
