Overall, I’m really proud of the work I’ve produced for this module. At the start of the module I felt a little lost, particularly with the summer work and trying to decide on what author to focus on in the first place. However, after I chose Orwell and researched his life and his work further I began to really enjoy this module.

I developed a lot of new skills in this module. Before any of these projects, I had never really used lino printing before and it ended up being the main process I used for the majority of my outcomes. I think the development is quite clear within my work. I was still learning how to use the lino tools for my Idea Pictures brief, and the end results aren’t particularly neat. However, I continued using lino for the Printed Pictures brief and made 12 A4 lino prints, and I think my skill improved over the course of this.





My approach to developing my ideas and working between my sketchbook and experimenting with print processes also refined over the course of this project, as I would do general thumbnailing, then refine down a specific illustration, lino cut and print it and then repeat. I think I got a lot better as researching during this project too.



I also learnt a lot about aftereffects which I had never used before – this is definitely something I would like to work with again in the future.



I think the Printed Pictures was the most successful of the briefs for me. I like my outcomes for Idea Pictures but I think I really grasped the use of lino printing in the second brief. I’m pleased with all the different skills and processes I combined within this project – lino and monoprinting, using Indesign and then bookbinding. I think my craftsmanship improved a lot during this module.



I think I could have managed my time between the last two briefs a lot better – I didn’t leave myself as much time as I could have done for the animation. I also think I should have spent more time considering the two colour limit within these projects. It didn’t occur to me to use both colours when thumbnailing my ideas and as a result I think the addition of the second colour looks like a bit of an afterthought, and I could have used it more effectively than I have done.

From this module, I’ve learnt how much I enjoyed using print processes, particularly linoprinting. In the future I’m definitely going to do more lino cuts, and I would really like to explore screenprinting further. I’ve done screenprinting in previous modules and I enjoyed experimenting with it briefly with this module, but I’d like to explore it much further in the future. I’d also like to learn a lot more about aftereffects and include it in some of my personal work. My ability to research has improved a lot in this module and this is something I would also like to carry forwards.
